Action: 2030 - Keeping your Home Cozy or Cool

Last year we applied through Mass Save for an interest free loan to install heat pumps in our house. Our house was heated by oil, and we wanted to do our part to burn less oil. The idea that we could also cool our house on very hot summer days was attractive as well. We had never had airconditioning before, but as summers are getting hotter and we are getting older, it helps to stay productive if a room can be cooled. Now that we have lived with the heat pumps for a while, we realize that we would have placed them differently in the house. They do tend to distribute warmth a little unevenly so that places furthest away from them are least warm. We've had to rearrange one room so that the desk of a household member who tends to be cold is closer to the heat pump. But at $158/month interest free loan payments for 72 months, heat pumps are a very easy and affordable way to go greener. And that is an important motivation!
